Myth : Ariyakudi native Sevukan Chettiyar used to walk to Tirupathi with a group of devotees on the auspicious Thiruvonam day in the month of Puratasi (October to November) for the dharshan of Tirupati Tiruvengadam Udayan / Srinivasa Perumal. On one of such trips, old age and ill health disrupted his trip to the hill temple. Soon, he heard the ‘asireeree’ (invisible voice) that of Lord Srinivasa Perumal- saying that He, the Lord, himself would provide darshan at the devotee’s place rather than the devotee coming all the way here. Also, Lord has guided to spot and unearth the Swayambu murthy or self propagating deity’s icon of the presiding deity under a Tulsi plant. That is where the temple now stands. And this is how Thiruvengadamudayan of Tirupati made Ariyakudi as Thenthirupati / Dhakshina Thirupati.
